Ten innovative cases were unveiled by Qianhai Cooperation Zone People’s Court on April.27 with the aim to offer examples for other courts in China to replicate or promote.

According to the court, a total of 32 Hong Kong professionals were appointed as people’s assessors in dealing with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas related cases.
A foreign law ascertainment mechanism was set up to better protect litigants’ rights by allowing them to choose law and practices during the trial.
The court also cooperates with 40 arbitration/dispute resolution institutions both at home and abroad to offer alternatives for clients and appointed 77 mediators from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign countries and regions to offer various services. Meanwhile, an online dispute resolution platform has been opened with over 1,000 law practitioners offering consultancy for people from the Belt and Road countries.
Statistics shows that over 4,100 disputes were solved and 612 among them were settled by Hong Kong mediators by the end of March.
To implement the most strict intellectual property (IP) protection measures, the court invites IP judges, peoples’ assessors, IP experts and professional technical investigators to form a team in the event of a case trial.
From July 2016 to March, more than 3,000 IP cases were settled and left only 458 cases in process.
With the help of the Internet, the court accepted 4,602 cases online as of March 31, bringing conveniences to litigants, especially those who have to stay at home during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The court also inked mutual recognition agreements with courts in Guangdong Pilot Free Trade Zone to allow litigants to file a lawsuit in any of those courts.
