The 120-strong enterprises in Qianhaiwan Free Trade Port Area have all resumed work amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) prevention and control efforts, with about 1,500 truckloads of goods entering the area daily.
Yuehai Global Supply Chain Co. Ltd. resumed 30 percent of its work capacity in the free trade port as early as Jan. 26, delivering anti-epidemic supplies it had purchased from overseas to the domestic market.
The company has imported 200 million yuan (US$28.24 million) worth of medical supplies and prevention gear, including 30 million face masks and 300,000 pieces of protective clothing, from foreign markets such as the United States, Germany, Turkey and Japan, said Han Xiao, general manager of Yuehai’s business department.
The company, registered in Qianhai in 2012, has resumed 96.5 percent of its work capacity as of March 16.
Han said the company has helped other multinationals such as Huawei and BBK deliver anti-epidemic supplies to overseas countries since March 12 amid the global COVID-19 outbreak. “Our company has exported more than 1 million face masks and 3 million test kits to a number of foreign countries including Germany and South Korea.”
Figures from the company showed that the total volume of Yuehai’s imports and exports reached US$ 2.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 300 percent.
Ingram Micro Supply Chain Service (Shenzhen) Ltd., another supply chain company in the free trade port, resumed work Feb. 23 with anti-epidemic guidance from the Qianhai authority.
Wang Hechao, operation manager of the company, said that they have received 2,500 face masks and medical alcohol for disinfection from the Qianhai authority, which also helped the company recruit employees to address the labor shortage problem the company faced to resume work.
“We have also deployed 12 robots for cargo sorting to address the labor shortage problem,” said Wang, adding that the robots have improved the order processing efficiency by 50 percent and saved the company about 30 percent of labor costs.
The adoption of a series of tightened management measures paved the way for the resumption of work for the enterprises in the free trade port.
Infrared automatic temperature detectors have been installed at the port entrances to make sure all people that enter the port have body temperatures within the normal range. Vehicles will have to be disinfected before entering the port. No gatherings of people are allowed in the port area to avoid cross infection.
The total import and export volume in the port reached 25.11 billion yuan in the first two months of this year, up 88.5 percent from the same period last year, according to official figures from Shenzhen Customs.
