Major buildings and housing estates in Qianhai will all be covered with 5G network by July when the construction of 71 new 5G network base stations is completed.
"One of the highlights of Qianhai’s 5G network construction is the digital DAS (distributed antenna system), an emerging technology and the future development direction of 5G,” said a staffer with the Smart Qianhai Office, adding that the DAS will be first installed at key venues such as Qianhai International Conference Center.
The Qianhai authority has rolled out 10 measures to address the difficulties that mobile operators face during the construction of the 5G network.
According to the measures, the mobile operators will have free access to the venues of all government bodies, State-owned enterprises, smart street lamps, parks and green areas and government-invested construction projects in Qianhai for the infrastructure construction of the 5G network. Operators of the properties such as Enterprise Dream Park, Qianhai Justice Center, Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Center and Longhai Garden are urged to provide convenience to the operators for constructing the network.
The Qianhai authority will make outdoor space for the mobile operators to build base station towers, which are required to blend in with the general landscape of the free trade area, as well as ensuring power supply for the outdoor base stations.
According to the staffer, China Mobile will add 33 new base stations this year to its total of 60 required for its 5G network coverage in Qianhai, while China Telecom and China Unicom will have to build 38 more base stations for their 5G network in the free trade area, which requires 65 in total.
The staffer said Qianhai will invite telecom engineers with China Electronic Product Reliability and Environmental Testing Research Institute (CEPREI) under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to conduct on-site inspection and testing of the 5G network.
The 5G base station construction is an integral part of the new infrastructure construction, which will drive the quality development in Qianhai. Construction will also accelerate on other major projects in Qianhai including the information hub, the smart management platforms for buses and public parking lots and the information system of Qianhai International Public Service Center.
