As the COVID-19 prevention and control efforts are paying off, the supply chain companies in the Qianhaiwan Free Trade Port Area have resumed work to ensure the domestic supply of anti-epidemic materials and maintain the stability of the foreign trade business.

East Top, a leading supply chain company registered in Qianhai, has purchased through its global supply channel urgently needed medical supplies such as face masks, goggles and surgical gloves for local hospitals when the epidemic was at its peak in late January and early February.

"We have set up a special team for cross-border purchases of the urgently needed medical materials,” said Li Xuyang, a member of the board of directors of East Top. He said the group was also responsible for sourcing medical materials, assessing risks before placing orders, making payments and receiving deliveries among other issues. “We also have to make sure the safety of the government funds, which were allocated for the purchases of anti-epidemic materials, while trying to lower the purchase costs,” Li said.

East Top managed to buy a large quantity of anti-epidemic materials from a number of overseas markets including Russia and Turkey. The medical materials have been distributed to local governments such as Shenzhen and Shanghai, as well as some State-owned pharmaceutical companies, easing the supply shortages in China.

Shenzhen Globex e-Service Inc., a cross-border e-commerce company in Qianhai, resumed work as early as Feb. 13 to increase the supply of daily necessities in the local market during a period when logistics has been greatly affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

Wu Dongshuo, CEO of Globex, said the company mainly supplies imported food and skincare products to the local market. “The amount of baby formula we have imported went up by 40 percent from the same period of last year,” he said.

The increases in imported food supply were the result of Globex’s working closely with Shekou Customs to digitalize the whole procedure of importing and exporting, to provide services such as online B2B transactions and settlement, cross-border B2B and B2C customs clearance, and logistics transportation, according to Wu.
