A new round of the 2022 vocational training camp for young people from the Hong Kong and Macao SARs was initiated June 8 at the Qianhai International Talent Hub.

On the same day, officials of the Qianhai authority and Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School attended the camp’s opening ceremony at the hub together with 37 university students from Hong Kong and Macao.

“Young people from Hong Kong and Macao are the new force for the future development of the SARs. After the release of the Qianhai plan, the area now embraces a new historical mission and will provide more opportunities for the growth of young people from Hong Kong and Macao. I hope this camp can serve as a platform for them to realize their dreams in Qianhai, in Shenzhen and in the Greater Bay Area,” an official of the Qianhai authority said.

As an important measure of “Qianhai’s recruitment plan for Hong Kong and Macao’s young people” (hereinafter referred to as the “recruitment plan”) to cultivate talents, the camp is held every three months and its courses are jointly designed by Peking University, Tsinghua University, ZET and Tencent to enhance the young people’s working skills and help them understand mainland culture. Nearly 1,000 students from Hong Kong and Macao applied for the program this year.

The Qianhai authority also invited Hong Kong and Macao employees working at senior management levels in TCL and Hays and Ernst & Young to give lectures to these students.

Since the recruitment plan was initiated in 2021, with the help of the Shenzhen and Hong Kong governments, the Qianhai authority has connected with a total of 3,910 Hong Kong and Macao young people to record what they need when seeking jobs on the mainland and their career planning via online platforms and offline activities.

Qianhai designed seven kinds of courses for Hong Kong and Macao young people to prepare them for their mainland life; the courses are based on a survey that reflects student’s needs and concerns when seeking a job on the mainland. By taking the courses, the students explored Qianhai, visited famous Qianhai-based companies, did career planning, had career counseling, and learned how to enhance their working skills, innovate and start up a business and integrate into mainland society.

“Qianhai’s development is beyond my expectations,” a student surnamed Kong said after visiting. “I’m confident of the promising future of the Greater Bay Area and am 100% sure that this is the place where I want to stay and work,” Kong said after visiting Pony.ai, an autonomous vehicle technology company whose fifth R&D center is based in Qianhai.

When sharing her own experience with the students, Huang Kilin, vice president of the Shenzhen branch of Pony.ai, told them that the Greater Bay Area is a top-notch area and a world-class city cluster full of dynamic energy and competitiveness. This area provides enterprises with a sustainable talent pool and sufficient financial, industrial and policy support. “So Pony.ai grasped the opportunity to promote the regional cooperation and communication among Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao in the self-driving auto industry and technology fields, which is beneficial to you guys because we can provide you with more opportunities and a better future.”
