The 2022 vocational training camp for young people from the Hong Kong and Macao SARs kicked off in Qianhai on May 25.

On the same day, Liang Ke, deputy secretary of the Party working committee of the Qianhai cooperation zone, and Zhang Fanshan, a senior official with Peking University HSBC Business School, attended the camp’s opening ceremony at the Qianhai International Talent Hub together with 35 university students from Hong Kong and Macao.

To help the students better understand and adapt to the work environment on the mainland and enhance their competitiveness in the mainland job market, the camp provided them with a six-day training program jointly designed by the Qianhai International Talent Hub and the Peking University HSBC Business School. The program included classes and activities focusing on exploring Qianhai, visiting local enterprises, how to do career planning, providing career counseling, and how to innovate and start up business.

“Young people from Hong Kong and Macao are the future of the two SARs, and their sense of national identity are vital to the steadiness of the country’s ‘one country, two systems’ cause. Qianhai has been endowed with an important historical mission, and also provides more opportunities and a greater future for young people in Hong Kong and Macao,” Li said at the ceremony. “As an important part of ‘Qianhai’s recruitment plan for Hong Kong and Macao’s young people,’ the camp aims to help them improve their working abilities and skills on the mainland, “ Li added. He also hoped that all the 35 students can absorb what the classes impart and contribute to the development of the country and its Greater Bay Area (GBA) with an open mind and far-sighted vision.

The training camp was very popular with Hong Kong and Macao students. More than 200 candidates applied for it on different online platforms.

A student surnamed Mak, who is from Hong Kong and studying at the mainland’s Sun Yat-sen University, said that she was at one time confused about whether or not she should follow the steps of most Hong Kong people who returned to the SAR to find a job in the financial field. “But through the recruitment plan and visiting Qianhai, I found that Qianhai is an area where unicorn tech companies such as DJI, insta360 and SmartMore prosper, so I decided to give it a shot here,” said Mak. “By joining the camp, I can exchange ideas with other students and learn more about the industrial development of the GBA, so I’m looking forward to the six-day program.”
