The King’s School, Canterbury, a U.K.-based K-12 school with a history of over 1,400 years, will open its first overseas prep school and a senior school in Qianhai this fall, audiences were told during a recently held online information session.

King’s School Shenzhen International (KSS Qianhai), located in Qianhai’s Guiwan area, covers about 23,907 square meters and will provide more than 1,200 school admissions for children aged 6 to 18, as well as boarding for 450 students. The prep school and senior school will enroll students for Grade 1 to 8 (U.K. Years 2 to 9) and Grades 9 to 12 (U.K. Years 10 to 13) respectively. Grades 1 to 10 will open for classes this fall.

KSS Qianhai mainly enrolls foreign passport holders, residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, or mainland students whose parents work in Qianhai and meet certain admission requirements.

Geoff Cocksworth, founding executive principal of KSS Qianhai, said: “As an international school in China, we will ensure that our students respect and understand the Chinese culture whilst gaining a global outlook.”

The campus’ design follows the courtyard model in the U.K. and will have a number of key infrastructures, including a laboratory dedicated to space studies, robotics and AI workshops, a music teaching center, two drama and dance performance halls, sports facilities, an art center and more.

The King’s School, Canterbury opened a pre-prep school (kindergarten) in Qianhai in 2019 and has provided education to more than 200 preschoolers. The kindergarten is about 4 kilometers away from the prep and senior schools.

The King’s School, Canterbury was founded in 597 and is described as the oldest school in the U.K. and Europe.
