Even though they have been separated from their families due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hong Kong entrepreneurs in Qianhai said they had a fruitful year during a Lunar New Year gathering in Qianhai on Wednesday.

Yu Gwong-tou, one of the representatives that newly settled in the area and founder of Cooh Science Biology (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd., an organic waste disposal solution provider, said his company has set up branches in nearby cities and received subsidies within a year.

Yu said his company started from scratch a year ago, but now it has expanded to other cities. “I have set up an interdisciplinary laboratory for intelligent manufacturing and big data at Songshan Lake in the city of Dongguan, and a biotechnology industry-university-research project base in the city of Guangzhou,” Yu said.

“Our product has been put into service in Dongguan and will soon be seen in the city of Jiangmen,” he said. “By taking advantage of Qianhai, we have achieved quick expansion in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and learned to leverage the strength of each of its cities.”

Ruby Fang, a Hong Kong fashion designer, relocated her workshop to Qianhai in 2021 and said the place is lucky for her.

“I had a fruitful year in Qianhai. I gained many opportunities and got access to more resources through Qianhai’s platform. For instance, I’m now exploring the digital fashion business,” she said.

Fang won the title of Excellent Young Entrepreneur of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in 2021 and has presented a runway show in last year’s Shenzhen Fashion Week.

Xu Ke, co-founder of LaSense Technology Ltd., a laser sensor developer, said: “We have gained two rounds of investment and the latter was achieved after we moved to Qianhai in November 2020. Now, we have built three production lines.”

“With Qianhai’s assistance, we have reached cooperation with China Emission Exchange to provide accurate carbon emission data and related services,” he said. Xu added that Qianhai has provided efficient services to his team and sent out subsidies in a timely manner.

He Yong, director and partner of Intelli4d Tech. (Shenzhen) Co., a 3D optical detection service provider, said his company received financing a month after it moved in Qianhai.

“They provided us customized services and helped us acquire five different subsidies, which exceeded our expectation,” he said. “We feel optimistic about our future development and strongly recommend more young people in Hong Kong to seize this opportunity.”

Entrepreneurs from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan whose companies are currently registered in Qianhai have their products incubated at the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub. By the end of 2021, a total of 252 startups had been operating in the hub and 155 among them are from Hong Kong.
