The Development Plan for the Application and Promotion of BIM Technology in Qianhai stood out from 1,957 competing projects to win the grand prize of the Smart City and Sustainable Development Category of the 2021 Innovation Cup BIM Application Contest, showcasing Qianhai’s leading position of the technology.

BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a collaborative way for the multidisciplinary information storing, sharing, exchanging, and managing throughout the entire building project lifecycle including planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and demolition phase. Currently, Qianhai has 256 buildings adopting the BIM technology, covering a total floor area of 9.6 million square meters, and the technology has been applied to all government and social investment projects in Qianhai that started construction after 2013, according to Qianhai authority statistics.

This year, Qianhai initiated the preparation of the BIM standard system. On the basis of compatibility with international, national and local standards, Qianhai strives to build a standardized BIM system with a reasonable structure, so as to lead the development direction of international and domestic BIM standards.

The Qianhai BIM standard system is the first of its kind in China that adopted the IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) industrial basic international open format and therefore can be automatically verified. This standard can convert all the BIM models of software manufacturers at home and abroad. The converted information can be freely extracted according to different application and development needs.

The award recipients are determined by the China Engineering and Consulting Association, which is administered by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. The contest has been held annually for 12 consecutive years with the aim of promoting the development of BIM technology nationwide.
