Thirty startup teams from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan demonstrated their innovative products and ideas at the 2021 Qianhai Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition finals held in Qianhai on Friday.

The gold, silver and bronze prize winners each received 300,000 yuan (US$47,052), 200,000 yuan and 100,000 yuan, respectively.

Xie Yuxuan, board secretary of Erised Semiconductor (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd., the competition’s gold prize winner, said the company focuses on the research and development of micro LED display chips and 60 percent of the team members have master’s or doctoral degrees.

Xie said the competition will help them recruit more talents and share resources with other companies and entrepreneurs, and they are expecting to expand their R&D centers to more cities and increase production capacity soon.

Chen Jingming from E3A Healthcare Technology (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd. said, “We have received a lot of attention from participating in this competition. Some colleges, physiotherapy institutions and investors have contacted us and expressed their cooperation intent.”

The company has settled in Qianhai for more than two years and specializes in home maternal and infant equipment. It has also obtained domestic and U.S. medical device trading permits.

The competition, initiated in 2016 to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, and to deepen exchanges among the youths on the mainland and in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, has attracted over 1,400 startup projects from the four places this year, including 700 from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. More than 6,000 startup teams have participated in the competition over the past six years.
