Thirty startup teams stood out among 113 semifinalists from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in the semifinal of the 2021 Qianhai Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition held at the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Fund Town on Nov. 3.

The participating projects are mainly from six industries, namely electronic information, mobile internet, biomedicine, advanced manufacturing, new energy and energy conservation, and new materials. They will compete for the championship in the finals to be held next month.

The competition, initiated in 2016 to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship, and to deepen exchanges among the youths on the mainland and in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, has attracted over 1,400 startup projects from the four places this year, including 700 from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Some foreign entrepreneurs from the U.S., the U.K. and Canada also participated in the competition.

According to Huang Zeyu, co-founder of Universe Cloud Group, one of the main reasons they have signed up for the competition is Qianhai’s all kinds of favorable policies for entrepreneurs and agglomeration of talents, which are attractive for the team.

“Almost 70 percent of our team members are from Hong Kong and Macao. I think we can exchange with the numerous peers in Qianhai to get inspiration for our product’s research and development,” Huang said.

An entrepreneur camp was held at the competition in which entrepreneurship mentors were invited to share their experiences of starting new businesses and how to deal with various issues they may encounter on the way to success.

After six years of development, the competition has become a well-known event in the innovation and entrepreneurship circles in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
