Underground roads in Qianhai open to traffic

The first phase of the underground road project that contains the underground parts of Guiwan Road 1, Linhai Boulevard and Binhai Boulevard opened to traffic July 9. Motorists now can drive from Longhua District to Qianhai in about 35 minutes.

The underground road project links with the second phase of Nanping Expressway in the north, Binhai Boulevard in the east and Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway in the south. It helps Qianhai to form a fast underground traffic network connecting with Nanshan, Longhua and Longgang.

The total length of the planned underground road system in Qianhai is 9.81 kilometers. It will connect with 33 underground parking along the route through 18 side roads, offering 15,000 parking places.

With the opening of the first phase, which is also the main line of the underground road project, the auxiliary lines will be put into operation soon.

The designed speed limit of the 3.03-kilometer underground sections of Guiwan Road 1 and Linhai Boulevard is 50 kilometers per hour, while that of the 1.28-kilometer underground section of Binhai Boulevard is 80 kilometers per hour.

Motorists from Shahe West Road can now drive to the underground road system through the second phase of Nanping Expressway. Exiting from the underground road system, they can reach Binhai Boulevard or Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway within 15 minutes.
