Yeung Yat-ka, one of the many Hong Kong entrepreneurs at the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub (E-hub), said he wanted to help more young people from Hong Kong find career opportunities in the new media industry on the Chinese mainland.

“The new media industry has a prosperous development momentum on the mainland, which has also formed a relatively complete industrial chain. Through our systematic and professional training, Hong Kong youngsters can grasp the skills they need to work in this field and fit in the mainland employment market for future development”, Yeung said.

Yeung graduated in 2012 from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and returned to Hong Kong to work in the finance industry. Five years later, he went to Beijing for better career opportunities.

“During my work in Hong Kong, I felt Hong Kong had a narrow development prospect, while the mainland was developing at a marvelous speed. So, when a job opportunity in Beijing came to me, I accepted it without any hesitation.”

Last year, Yeung decided to pursue his own career in Shenzhen and chose Qianhai to start his business.

“I believe the planning of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) will yield successful results and the GBA will serve as a giant carrier for the common prosperity of the mainland and Hong Kong. Shenzhen is a highly inclusive city that has rich talent resources and an international living and working environment. When I came to Qianhai, I was obsessed with the Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation concept for the free trade area and the dream realization idea of the E-hub,” he said, adding that the numerous favorable policies targeting Hong Kong entrepreneurs were also attractions for him to choose Qianhai.

Currently, Yeung has rented a shared office space in the E-hub and is planning to register a company with his partner in Qianhai.

“Through my own living and working experience on the mainland, I found that the mainland and Hong Kong people have misunderstandings of each other. I feel that it is a responsibility for me to serve as a bridge between the two sides to let more Hong Kong people better understand the mainland culture and diminish mutual bias,” he said.
