Officials of the Guangdong and Hong Kong governments signed a number of agreements on cooperation in various fields at the 22th Plenary of the Hong Kong-Guangdong Cooperation Joint Conference on May 14.

According to the joint conference, Guangdong and Hong Kong will strengthen cooperation in five aspects, i.e. taking continuous epidemic prevention and control measures to promote the resumption of bilateral personnel flow; creating more opportunities for cooperation by accelerating construction on the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone and the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Cooperation Zone for Science and Technology Innovation; strengthening innovation and entrepreneurship cooperation through Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao joint labs and other platforms and carriers; deepening cooperation in business, trade and consumption to jointly develop domestic and international markets; and promoting exchanges between young people from the two places and support more Hong Kong youth to come to Guangdong for innovation, entrepreneurship and employment.

Initiated in 1998, the joint conference is held in Guangzhou and Hong Kong alternately once each year, aiming to comprehensively strengthen the cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong, and improve the two sides’ coordination of trade, economy, infrastructure construction, transportation and customs.

Over the past years, cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong has yielded fruitful results. In terms of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area construction, a series of measures have been implemented in Guangdong to serve Hong Kong residents’ needs, including a preferential personal income tax rate, lowered house purchase qualification, entrepreneurship subsidies and lower the thresholds for lawyers and architects working in Guangdong.
