Chan Sing and Kuo Wai-keung are among the many young entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and Macao who have found career success in the 56,000-square-meter territory of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

After six years of development in Qianhai, Chan’s company has established connections with 212 large international suppliers, completed 8,124 cross-border transactions, indirectly incubated 140-some cross-border e-commerce companies, and in one month achieved a transaction volume of US$34.5 million.

Chan attributes theses eye-catching numbers to the favorable policies in Qianhai. “The free office space, convenient investment and financing environment, as well as the financial support for startups like us make me fully understand the mission of Qianhai, the advantages of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the great practice of ‘One Country, Two Systems,’” he said.

Kuo Wai-keung, another Hong Kong entrepreneur in Qianhai, invented the market’s first luggage that can be vertically opened, which can also automatically show its weight and be unlocked with a fingerprint. Kuo’s company has been certified as a national high-tech firm.

Kuo said he eyed the vast markets on the Chinese mainland and the Belt and Road countries. “I also want to let more Hong Kong youngsters see the great opportunities on the mainland and in the GBA through my experience,” he said.

Both Chan and Kuo were recently honored “Shenzhen Outstanding Youth.” The honor was jointly initiated by the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Shenzhen Youth Federation to commend young people with outstanding contributions to the city’s development.

Macao entrepreneur Kam Wan-lung, who wants to help people with their disease diagnosis and personal health management, established a scientific research team in Hong Kong and is now cooperating with counterparts on the Chinese mainland. After establishing a branch company in Pingshan District, he enjoys many favorable policies from the local authorities.

“The talent resource is abundant and the public research facilities are complete here, which is quite crucial for technology companies like ours,” he said.

Official statistics show that many young people from Hong Kong and Macao are now cooperating with mainland partners in emerging industries, including big data, Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. More than 4,000 Hong Kong and Macao youngsters from about 600 startup teams are now working in Guangdong Province.
