Qianhai’s water and soil conservation efforts pay off

All 108 projects under construction in Qianhai have attained water and soil conservation standards as the efforts made by the Qianhai authority have paid off.

The Qianhai authority piloted an integrated approval model and a registration management system for water-related affairs and water and soil conservation, respectively.

All water-related affairs should be included in a project’s overall construction plan for approval. The original eight water-related items are merged into four for approval, shortening the approval time by half. Government-invested projects that may cross the basic ecologic protection line should have their water and soil conservation programs approved; other construction projects should have their water and soil conservation programs registered with the Qianhai authority.

Qianhai has also formulated laws and regulations that set the standards for drainage of construction sites. Key projects in Qianhai are required to add facilities for treating mud water and strengthening bare soil coverage.

In addition, a third-party agency specializing in water and soil conservation has been introduced to monitor and inspect the water and soil conservation work. Water-affairs law enforcement authorities have also strengthened joint inspection and punishment for violations to safeguard water and soil conservation work in Qianhai.
