A growing number of young people from Hong Kong have found or are considering finding job opportunities in the nine Greater Bay Area cities on the Chinese mainland such as Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan and Zhongshan due to the development potential of these cities.

Cheng Ka-ho is one of the many Hong Kong youths working at Laihua, a Qianhai-headquartered short video creation company. He said the big market of the GBA cities attracts him.

According to Wei Bo, CEO of Laihua, about 30 percent of the company’s employees are from Hong Kong. “In the future, we will continue to recruit more than 100 employees from Hong Kong and Macao,” he said.

Jim Man-tung started working as a senior manager at a Guangzhou-based education organization two years ago. He said the mainland market has been developing fast in recent years.

“Scientific educational products can reach more customers in the mainland GBA cities compared with Hong Kong. The favorable policies and all kinds of subsidies also encourage more Hong Kong youths to make their innovative ideas and products come true on the mainland,” Jim said.

In January this year, Qianhai initiated a monthly recruitment program for young people from Hong Kong and Macao. So far, a total of 540 job vacancies have been made available and over 20 jobseekers from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have found suitable work or internship opportunities.

In addition, the Hong Kong government launched the “Greater Bay Area Youth Employment Scheme” on January 8. As of April 7, a total of 275 mainland enterprises have offered over 2,000 positions for Hong Kong youths through the project.
