GZ-SZ riverside expressway to go undersea in Qianhai

Work is scheduled to start next month to build an undersea tunnel for the Qianhai section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Riverside Expressway, which will connect to the Nanping Expressway undersea at Qianhai Bay.

Qianhai Bay will provide an open, unobstructed sea view after the current Qianhai section of the expressway goes under water.

The first of its kind in the country, the 6.4-kilometer undersea tunnel will connect the south side of Tinghai Boulevard with the Dachan Bay Interchange, where it will connect to the extension of the current Nanping Expressway and the planned Shenzhen-Zhuhai Link. An innovative construction model has been adopted to shorten the construction time by two years when compared to the traditional way of constructing the project.

According to an earlier media report, the water circulation and ecological system of the Qianhai Bay are also expected to be improved.
