Tax-related professionals from both Hong Kong and Macao are now allowed to work in Qianhai after registration. A service center was inaugurated yesterday to help them carry out tax-related work in Qianhai.

Previously, only Hong Kong tax accountants were allowed to work in Qianhai after registration, piloting the innovative practice jointly initiated in mid-January by the Shenzhen Tax Service, the city’s human resources and social security administration and the Qianhai authority. Now the practice is expanded to cover all tax-related professionals from Macao as well as Hong Kong.

Zhao Zhongliang, director of Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Administration, said at the ceremony that the new practice is one of the measures the bureau has taken to attract more overseas professional talents to participate in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

At the inauguration, 27 Hong Kong and Macao tax professionals and two joint-venture tax agencies that have completed registration with the city’s tax authority.

Gong Yongde was among the first batch of Hong Kong tax accountants to be qualified to work in Qianhai. He said the new practice will attract more Hong Kong peers to work in Qianhai.

“Our expertise and knowledge of international tax affairs is conducive to help Qianhai create an international-level law-based business environment in the Greater Bay Area,” he said.

Currently, Qianhai is the only place on the mainland that has adopted the practice. Tax professionals from Hong Kong and Macao are still required to pass the mainland’s qualification examination before they can work legally in other places of the mainland.

The new practice also covers residents of Hong Kong and Macao engaged in 10 other kinds of professional services.
