Construction on the First Circuit Court of the Supreme People’s Court Building has been progressing as scheduled in Qianhai, it was unveiled during a recent media visit to the project site.

The project, scheduled for completion in 2023, is being built by the Southern Company of the Eighth Engineering Bureau of China Architecture. It will house trial courts, convention centers and other functional rooms such as mediation rooms and witness waiting rooms of the First Circuit Court in the 11-story building with additional three floors underground.

The First Circuit Court of the Supreme People’s Court was inaugurated in Luohu District on Jan. 28, 2015. It is one of a few circuit courts set up by the Supreme People’s Court across the country to handle major administrative, civil and commercial cases in the cities and provinces under their jurisdiction. The circuit courts have the power of final adjudication. The first circuit court in Shenzhen covers Guangdong, Hunan and Hainan provinces, and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

With an investment of 309 million yuan (US$47.5 million), the first circuit court building in the Qianwan area will also serve as a window to the achievements of China’s judicial reform and Shenzhen’s efforts for a law-based city.

The first circuit court will be relocated to Qianhai after the building is put into use, to better serve the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
