Construction has sped up on the Qianhai MCC Technology Building project, the scientific research headquarters of China Metallurgical Group Corp. (MCC) in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, after the Spring Festival hoiday, laying a solid foundation for the projects’ completion next year.

Covering an area of 7,300 square meters in central Guiwan area, the project contains the 27-floor Qianhai MCC Technology Building and a five-floor podium for commercial use. The 2.17-billion-yuan (US$336.33 million) project is developed by Shenzhen Qianhai Metallurgical Construction Technology Development Co. Ltd.

The MCC headquarters building will house an academician work station, a postdoctoral work station and several national-level scientific research platforms. The project is an important move of Qianhai’s implementation of the national innovation-driven development strategy.

The project, designed by world-renowned architecture firm Aedas, adopts stream lines in the structure’s exterior to resemble “a carp leaping over the dragon's gate," signifying its success in Qianhai, according to the project manager.

The project manager also said that a series of environmental-friendly technologies including the water saving system, heat insulation, the ventilation system, air purification system and natural lighting are applied in the construction of the Qianhai MCC Technology Building for sustainable development.

The project has won several international architectural awards such as LEED-CS Gold certification, 2020 Global Future Design Awards, and the MUSE Design Awards Gold Winner.
