Qianhai-based Hong Kong entrepreneur Law Ka-kit said he hoped to enhance the communication between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong through his animation company in the free trade area.

Law, with a master’s degree in computer animation and visual effects from the Teesside University in the United Kingdom, set up Shenzhen Snowy Owl Technology Co. Ltd. at the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub in December last year.

He said he set up his company in Shenzhen as he found from his previous job experience that there was a huge market potential for 3-D design and animation on the Chinese mainland. He had traveled frequently between Hong Kong and the mainland when working on 2-meter-tall French bulldog-shaped sculpture for the Halloween event in Beijing’s Sanlitun.

Law said he finally decided to base the company in Qianhai as it is “very convenient to travel to Qianhai” from his home in Yuen Long. And “the entrepreneurial subsidies, low-rent apartment and personal care provided by the Qianhai authorities made me feel at home” in the free trade area.

“The snowy owl is a kind of a white owl that acts and forages during the day. In the Harry Potter novels, there is also a snowy owl called Hedwig to serve as the messenger. Using snowy owl as the name of my company, I hope to supply the bilateral needs between Hong Kong and the mainland and better serve mainland customers,” he said.

Law and his team are working on the design of many game characters for his clients on the mainland, where the game industry undergoes fast development.

“My entrepreneurial dream is coming true in Qianhai,” he said.
