Construction starts on QH's antipoverty project in Shanwei

Construction on a poverty alleviation project initiated by the Qianhai Authority to lift the Overseas Chinese Administrative District out of poverty started in Shanwei on Dec. 28.

The Qianhai Comprehensive Market, with contributions from the Qianhai-based enterprises, has been designed to serve as a long-term and stable means to help residents in the district eradicate poverty.

Located in the central area of the administrative district, the two-floor market, with a total floor space of 6,000 square meters, will accommodate 300 fresh food stalls, 50 indoor non-staple food stores and 25 outdoor shops, providing 600 employment positions to local residents.

The market is also expected to boost the development of local warehousing, logistics and distribution businesses.

All revenue generated by the project will be distributed to poverty-stricken households in the district as cash dividends. The per capita annual disposable income of residents in the district is expected to exceed 20,000 yuan (US$3,064) after the market is put into operation.
