Thirty finalists of the Fifth Qianhai Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition shared 3 million yuan (US$458,400) prize money in Qianhai on Dec. 11.

They stood out among 1,100 projects from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The top winners, runner-ups and second runner-ups received cash awards of 300,000 yuan, 200,000 yuan and 100,000 yuan, respectively.

Themed “Dream Big,” the competition paid closer attention to the feasibility of the candidate projects and added prizes for projects with the best innovation and market potential.

This year entrepreneurship mentors and investment resources were provided to the competing teams.

The Qianhai authority has also introduced policies to support the development of young Hong Kong and Macao entrepreneurs in Qianhai.

A sideline entrepreneur camp was organized to take entrepreneurs to visit the exhibition about the 40th anniversary of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone at the Qianhai International Convention Center.

Initiated in 2016, the competition has attracted more than 5,000 startup teams over the past five years. Among them, more than 2,000 are from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The competition has boosted the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and encouraged young people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to work and start up businesses on the Chinese mainland.

The competition is jointly organized by the Qianhai Cooperation Zone Authority, the Shenzhen Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Commission, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Offices of Shenzhen Municipal Government and other government agencies in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao.
