Qianhai, univ. join hands to build industrial base

Qianhai will build an international industry-academia-research base with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) under a strategic partnership framework agreement signed between the two parties in Longgang District on Dec. 7.

The strategic partnership framework agreement is a joint attempt on government-university cooperation in the fields of institutional innovation, sci-tech innovation, modern service industry, education, medicine and health, Huang Min, chief of the Party committee of the Qianhai cooperation zone authority, said at the ceremony.

“The Qianhai authority will provide the utmost support to all the cooperation projects under the partnership framework agreement, to fully integrate Hong Kong into the country’s general development,” Huang said.

The international industrial base is aimed at attracting young people and entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and around the world to Qianhai for innovation and entrepreneurship, said Xu Yangsheng, president of CUHK-Shenzhen, at the signing ceremony.

Xu said the science and technology research conducted in the university needs an industrial base to turn the research results into valuable products for the market, and Qianhai is an ideal partner, considering its position as a pilot area for Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation. “I look forward to an international industry-academia-research base, for all the innovation-minded talent across the world through the cooperation with Qianhai.”

Xu said the university will also strive to serve as a think tank for the operation of the industrial base and Qianhai’s efforts to construct a law-based society with its faculty of respected professors in their respective fields.
