Due to lockdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in a number of countries across the world, the cross-border e-commerce businesses in Qianhai have boomed this year, with a daily volume of more than 1.5 million parcels going through customs clearance at the Qianhai Comprehensive Bonded Zone alone.

A senior official with the Shenzhen Cross-border E-commerce Logistics Center under Shenzhen Customs attributed the booming of cross-border e-commerce to a series of innovative measures and policies that have streamlined the customs clearance procedures in the Qianhai bonded zone.

An unnamed person in charge of the e-commerce logistics center has described the MCC (multi-country consolidation) logistics service in Qianhai that provides huge conveniences to the cross-border e-commerce companies as an example. The service, jointly initiated by Shekou Customs and the Qianhai authority, offers one-stop cargo collection, transfer and distribution, and cargo consolidation in Qianhai.

Each day 1.5 million parcels go through customs at the bonded area and within a hour they arrive at the Hong Kong airport, ready for shipping, said the person, adding that three lines for the sorting and supervision of exported parcels have been in service with a capacity of handling more than 300 million parcels a year.

Among many other e-commerce enterprises attracted by the efficient customs clearance procedures, Cainiao, a global logistics company, relocated one of its warehouses of cross-border e-commerce goods to Qianhai in 2017. “Qianhai’s convenient transport, efficient customs and geographical advantage enable us to provide better cross-border shopping experiences to our international consumers,” said Zeng Pan, the company’s customer affairs manager.

Some cross-border e-commerce companies have relocated their live broadcast rooms to the bonded zone.

“Since the relocation of our live broadcast room, our online sales have tripled compared with the same period last year,” said the head of Shenzhen One Big Warehouse Supply Chain Technology Co. Ltd.

The booming cross-border e-commerce in Qianhai has contributed to the growth of Shenzhen’s international trade, which recorded a 2.7 percent annual increase in the first three quarters of this year to 2.18 trillion yuan (US$329.4 billion), according to Shenzhen Customs.
