Legal forum held on intl. commercial dispute resolution

Shenzhen will have full judicial support from the Supreme People’s Court for the city’s endeavor to pilot China’s further reform and opening up in the areas of economic and social development, according to a senior State official at the Fifth Qianhai Legal Intelligence Forum held Nov. 7.

This year’s forum focused on resolutions of international commercial disputes amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, which has swept through the whole world over the past months.

Yang Wanming, vice president of the Supreme People’s Court, said in his speech delivered through video conferencing at the forum that his court will introduce three major measures to support the development of Shenzhen, which he said serves as an important experimental zone of China’s reform and opening up.

“The supreme court will introduce legal documents on quality judicial services for Shenzhen’s construction of a pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics; give full play to the court’s judicial functions to facilitate the city’s efforts to create a market-oriented, rule-of-law, international business environment, and to strengthen the role of Shenzhen courts in the judicial system of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA); and enhance the capability of international commercial dispute resolution mechanisms,” Yang said.

Gong Jiali, president of the Higher People’s Court of Guangdong Province, told the forum that the courts in Guangdong aim to solve problems through opening up and cooperating in the drive of building GBA into a world-class bay area full of energy, vitality and development prospects.
