The Qianhai International Conference Center, which hosted a grand gathering celebrating the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone on Oct. 14, has become one of Shenzhen’s official venues for government functions.

Located to the north of Qianhai Boulevard and east to the Bauhinia Park, the 40,000-square-meter conference center can host events such as government and business receptions, and international exchange activities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

It took the contractor, China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corp. Ltd., 366 days to complete the construction of the project, showcasing the “Qianhai Speed.”

Designed by Meng Jianmin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the center integrates the traditional Chinese architectural elements with modern architectural aesthetics.

The center is covered by a 2,400-square-meter modern colored glass roof to mimic the glazed tile roof of a traditional Lingnan-style building. The tiered glass roof, larger than a standard soccer filed, is the largest in China, according to Li Rongsheng, deputy general manager of Qianhai Investment Holding, the investor of the project.

The interior design and decoration, inspired by the famous Cantonese musical score “Rosy Clouds Chasing the Moon,” demonstrates the traditional architectural aesthetics and the characteristics of Qianhai in the contemporary era.

Other Lingnan-style elements such as colonnades, low walls and waterscapes have also been applied in the design of the center.

The contractor used 3-D scanning robots to obtain precise data analysis during the roof installation and the BIM (Building Information Modeling) management system to guarantee efficiency and accuracy of the construction.

The conference center has won many honors such as a high-quality structural engineering project in Guangdong Province.
