Seven high-tech startup incubator operators, four of which are overseas-funded, moved in the second phase of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub (E-hub) on Aug. 28 when it was put into service.

The incubators will mainly serve high-tech startups engaging in emerging technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence), cloud computing and educational science.

Construction on the second phase of the E-hub started in January 2019. Covering an area of 19,000 square meters west of Phase I, it will provide more office space to accommodate sci-tech startups and incubators.

The first phase of the E-hub that started operation in December 2012 has incubated 446 startups, including 227 from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and other foreign countries, as of last month.

ZebraS Technology Startup Acceleration Ltd. was one of the seven companies that moved into the second phase of the E-hub. Sara Tao, CEO of ZebraS, said that her company focuses on the incubation of mostly Hong Kong-funded startups.

“Eight of the 10 startups we have introduced to the E-hub since April are from Hong Kong, Macao and foreign countries,” said Tao. “They spoke highly of the favorable policies and international supporting facilities that Qianhai offers after moving in.”

In a separate development, 13 high-tech enterprises and accelerators will move in the 90,000- square-meter Qianhai Youth Entrepreneurship Community. Located at the Guiwan area, it will serve as the first science + technology + innovation cooperation platform between Shenzhen and Hong Kong with a focus on industrial acceleration.

Qianhai aims to become an innovation and entrepreneurship center and has established partnerships with a number of organizations such as the UK-China Economic and Trade Promotion Association, the Green Prosperity Group, and KPMG (Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler).
