US$4.21 billion to be invested in 50 digital projects in Qianhai

A total of 29.2 billion yuan (US$4.21 billion) will be invested in 50 digital infrastructure projects in Qianhai in the next five years, participants in a conference at the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Center were told yesterday afternoon.

According to the overall planning of the new digital infrastructure projects unveiled by the Qianhai authority at the conference, the 50 projects include 5G base stations and broadband networks, an information exchange center for the Greater Bay Area and a green data center, converged infrastructure projects such as State-level industrial Internet, smart transportation facilities and the smart Mawan Port, as well as other innovative infrastructure for the biomedicine and life health industries.

Tian Fu, member of the Standing Committee of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and director of the Authority of China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone Qianhai and Shekou Area, said at the conference that Qianhai has made advancements in the construction of new infrastructure and a smart city.

Qianhai is the first free trade area that is fully covered by the 5G network with 375 5G base stations. Construction has accelerated on the Qianhai Information Hub, which is a big data center. The Qianhai Cloud platform that provides cloud computing and artificial intelligence tools for Qianhai-registered enterprises has been put into operation.

Qianhai aims to build a digital urban area and an information exchange hub to boost technological innovation, industrial development and social governance.

Qianhai will utilize Hong Kong’s advances in education and scientific research when constructing the infrastructures, to serve the Greater Bay Area, strengthen Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation and attract more high-tech enterprises to settle in the free trade area.

The conference was attended by officials of the Qianhai authority, the city’s communications administration, Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission, Shenzhen Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Commission, Shenzhen Municipal Industrial and Information Technology Bureau, Nanshan District People's Government, and representatives of the Shenzhen branches of China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom.
