Qianhai to strengthen cooperation with overseas FTZs

The Qianhai and Shekou Free Trade Area pledges to take its economic cooperation with overseas free trade zones (FTZs) to a higher level, attendees were told at a July 30 conference held by the Qianhai Cooperation Zone Authority and the China Merchants Port Group Co. Ltd.

Delegates from over 20 business associations and 100-strong enterprises attended the conference, which was also broadcast live, attracting 14,000 online viewers.

Basic information, business environment, and policy and resources advantages of three overseas free trade zones, the Djibouti International Free Trade Zone, the Hambantota Port Industrial Park in Sri Lanka, and the Vientiane Saysettha Development Zone in Laos, were introduced at the conference.

The three free trade zones are serving as the main engines and gateways for the economic growth of their corresponding countries, the conference was told.

Over the past years, Qianhai has played a positive role in boosting China’s mutual investments with overseas countries.

Official statistics showed that as of June, a total of 455 enterprises have been set up in Qianhai by 41 “Belt and Road” countries with a contract value of US$1.76 billion. The Qianhai-based enterprises have also established 56 subsidiaries in 17 “Belt and Road” countries with investments totaling US$1.55 billion.

Qianhai aims to set up a free trade zone alliance of the “Belt and Road” countries to strengthen regional economic cooperation and boost mutual development by utilizing the complementary advantages between Qianhai and the overseas free trade zones.
