The total volume of import and export of the Qianhai and Shekou free trade area reached 94.3 billion yuan (US$13.48 billion) in the first half of this year, a year-on-year growth of 26.2 percent, statistics from the Shenzhen Customs showed.

Zheng Chenghui of Dongguan Ramaxel Techonology Co. Ltd. spoke highly of the measures introduced by the Shenzhen Customs that enable his company to smoothly complete the customs clearance procedures.

Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, some Southeast Asian countries suspended issuing the Certificate of Origin for exported goods, which is mandatory for the company to apply for a preferential tax rate.

“The customs authority lets us complete the customs clearance procedures without the certificate,” said Zheng, adding that the online customs clearance service has also saved them a lot of trouble.

The service is one of the measures that customs introduced to stabilize the foreign trade business and boost economic growth during the pandemic. The Qianhai-based enterprises also enjoy other favorable policies such as tax reduction and exemption, tax rebates and deferred tax payment.

The favorable business environment in Qianhai has attracted a large number of enterprises to settle in the free trade area. In the first half of this year, Qianhai had 722 newly registered enterprises, up over 200 percent from the same period of last year.
