Legal innovations improve Qianhai’s business environment

The Qianhai Cooperation Zone People’s Court has in recent years adopted various legal policies for resolving international commercial disputes more effectively, as part of Qianhai’s efforts to create a world-class business environment.

According to official statistics, as of May, 77 mediators from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas countries have been hired to work for the diversified dispute resolution center of the Qianhai court. A total of 622 commercial disputes have been solved through mediation.

The Qianhai court has also established a Hong Kong juror system, for which 32 jurors from Hong Kong have been appointed. They have been involved in the hearings of 419 cases.

In addition, the court has applied foreign laws and Hong Kong laws in the hearings of 72 and 59 cases, respectively, in accordance with the extraterritorial law ascertainment and application mechanism it has established.

Also as of May, the court has heard 8,943 Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas-related commercial cases.

So far, Qianhai has been home to a number of Shenzhen-Hong Kong joint law firms. The DHH KAN & LL (Qianhai) Law Firm, the city’s first legal association formed by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao law firms, has settled in Qianhai.

Legal services regarding cross-border capital markets, cross-border dispute resolution, investment and financing, as well as international trade are available at the law firms.
