The settlement of the National Copyright Innovation and Development Base in Qianhai was on Shenzhen’s 2019 List of Top 10 Legal Events, which was unveiled to the public June 3.

The list has been jointly compiled by the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and the Shenzhen Law Society.

The national copyright base was inaugurated in Qianhai on Oct. 24. It has been reported that Qianhai’s innovation performance and its construction of a rule-of-law environment have attracted the attention of the National Copyright Administration, which decided to settle the copyright base in the free trade area.

The copyright base has been designed to provide copyright-related services for enterprises and lead the development of the emerging copyright industry.

Statistics show that the added value of the copyright sector reached 6.63 trillion yuan (US$931.2 billion) in 2018, accounting for 7.37 percent of the national GPD of that year.

The copyright base houses a smart copyright innovation and development research institute, a bonded cultural artwork exhibition center, a world-famous cultural IP operation center, a copyright operation and protection center, a Shenzhen-Hong Kong copyright and property trading center, and a copyright industry development and service center.

The copyright base is part of Qianhai’s efforts to build an IPR (intellectual property rights) powerhouse. Over the past few years, a number of judicial, administrative, arbitration and notarization institutions, as well as some legal service providers such as the China (Shenzhen) Intellectual Property Protection Center and the National Overseas Intellectual Property Dispute Resolution Center have settled in Qianhai.
