Qianhai has sped up a series of new infrastructure construction to power a new round of high-quality development in the free trade area, as put forward in the new national strategy for economic growth.

Qianhai has mapped out 15 key new infrastructure projects with a total investment of 7 billion yuan (US$977 milllion) on this year’s agenda, including construction of the 5G network, the Qianhai Information Hub and a new-type Internet exchange center.

Liu Ningwu, director of the Smart Qianhai Office of the Qianhai authority, said the 5G technology is fundamental to creating an environment that encourages mass entrepreneurship and innovation. “So we aim to provide a quality 5G network for enterprises and startups in Qianhai,” Liu said.

Qianhai will have 270 5G base stations by the end of June, forming a 5G Internet network that covers most areas of the free trade area.

Part of the efforts to build a demonstration area of quality communication services, Qianhai has partnered with State agencies to unveil the country’s first evaluation system for the quality of communication services May 15.

The Qianhai Information Hub will be built in Qianwan area. The 112.15-meter-tall building will integrate emerging technologies like big data, AI (artificial intelligence), industrial Internet and blockchain. It will be a milestone in Qianhai’s digital construction, connecting the physical and digital development, Liu said.

According to Liu, Qianhai has also planned to build a new-type Internet exchange center and an industrial Internet center in the free trade area this year.

The Internet exchange center will break the connection barrier among different telecom service providers to interconnect their networks, providing high-speed Internet connection. The industrial Internet center will serve the high-quality development of the city’s manufacturing industry.

At the end of next month, 132 smart lamp posts will make debut on Qianwan Road 1. The multifunctional lamp posts will serve as 5G base stations while monitor road traffic and broadcast and release information in addition to lighting.

The construction of the street lamps is conducive to the integration of traffic information resources and the sharing of information between urban management authorities.
