The Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity rail line will be extended more than 15 kilometers from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport to Qianhai, according to an environmental impact report recently released by Shenzhen Metro Group.

The design of the extension has been completed. Construction will start in June and it is scheduled to be completed in 2024. Three stations have been planned along the extension, namely Xixiang Station, Bao’an Station and Qianhai Station.

Bao’an Station will be an interchange station with Fanshen Station of Metro Line 5 and a yet-to-be-built station of Metro Line 9.

The operating section of the Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen intercity rail began service between Guangzhou’s Xintang and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport via Dongguan in December last year, offering another quick link for travelers between the three cities.

In the future, the rail will be further extended from Qianhai to Huanggang Checkpoint in Futian District to support the development of Qianhai and Dongguan’s Coastal New Town.

On Guangzhou’s side, the rail will be extended to Baiyun International Airport through a link with Xintang Station.

It will be connected with other Pearl River Delta cities through links with the Foshan-Dongguan rail, Dongguan-Huizhou rail and Guangzhou-Foshan rail to serve both the inter-city travelers and commuters in Shenzhen.
