The Qianhai-Nanshan drainage tunnel project, said to the country’s first large-scale comprehensive drainage tunnel, resumed work Feb. 20, according to Li Jianning, the project’s chief engineer.
Li thanked the Qianhai authority for the 10,000 face masks his company received. “With our own prevention gear, we now have face masks enough for 15 days for our workers.”
Li said the contractor’s 308 workers underwent training on virus prevention and work safety before construction resumed at the worksite. Started in May last year, the project is scheduled to be completed in 2024.

Workers returning from provinces hit less hard by the epidemic had to take a nucleic acid test and receive training on virus prevention before they were allowed to enter the construction site of the Mawan cross-sea passage, which resumed work March 6.

Zhou Zhen, the project manager of the passage, said they have adopted closed-off management on the construction site in which workers keep a safe distance from each other while working.

The construction resumed at Qianhai Trading Plaza on Feb. 25, said Wen Jianming, the project manager, who also expressed his thanks to the Qianhai authority for the 12,000 face masks they received.

Qianhai Trading Plaza, covering an area of 79,000 square meters in the Guiwan area, will be a trading venue for financial institutions such as the Qianhai Equity Trading Center, Qianhai Insurance Trading Center and Qianhai Financial Asset Exchange after the scheduled completion date in 2023.

All of the 525 employees who took nucleic acid tests after returning from their hometown tested negative, said Wen, adding that the project contractor, China Railway First Group. Ltd., provided shuttle services for the workers to avoid the cross-infection risk involved in taking public transport.

Another major infrastructure project, the Qianhai Transportation Hub, resumed work as early as Feb. 20.
The hub consists of five underground rails, including three Metro lines, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Railway and the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Expressway, and transport connection stations for public buses, taxis and tourism buses.
The Qianhai authority has pledged to improve the traffic infrastructure and urban environment this year when the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone marks the 10th anniversary of its establishment.
A total of 40 roads will be put into service, and green areas are expected to increase by 200,000 square meters.
According to the official plan, construction on Qianhai International Conference Center, Bauhinia Garden Phase Two and Guiwan Park will be completed this year, while work will accelerate on the construction of international schools and hospitals.
