A rooftop photovoltaic power generator located atop the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation Center has been put into service, producing clean energy and generating about 11 percent of the total amount of electricity consumed annually at the center.
Invested by Qianhai Energy Co. Ltd., the generator occupies about 5,000 square meters on the center’s roof and will produce 410,000 kwh of electricity each year, equivalent to that produced by 164 tons of coal while also reducing emissions of 430 tons of carbon dioxide, 3.4 tons of sulfur dioxide and 2.8 tons of nitrogen oxides.
The project contractor had conducted detailed research on the roof’s load capacity and waterproofing standards before formulating a special plan for follow-up protection and noise control.
No disruptions were posed to the business operations of companies at the center during the project’s construction, which involved such steps as installing more than 1,300 pieces of photovoltaic panels, as construction was mostly carried out during off-work hours and weekends.
It took only eight days for the contractor to complete the system testing and grid connection required for power generation amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
The operation of the photovoltaic power generator is one of the many efforts made by Qianhai in exploring sustainable development and clean energy.
