National-level museum to settle in Qianhai

An international design competition has been launched for the Guoshen Museum (tentative name), to be located in Qianhai, inviting architecture design companies from home and abroad, according to the city’s planning and natural resources bureau.

An area of 32,600 square meters in the Qianwan area has been planned for the museum, which will consist of seven major areas in a total floor space of 120,000 square meters: a storeroom for cultural relics, an exhibition hall for cultural relics, an education area, a research section, the service and interaction premises, an office space, an equipment warehouse and an underground garage.

According to the plan, new construction techniques, new technologies and materials will be applied in the construction of the museum, which will be a new cultural landmark in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

One of the 10 new cultural facilities in Shenzhen, the museum has been planned to become an example of a public facility that incorporates functionality, advanced technology and architectural aesthetic.

The competition invites designs for the main building, landscaping and interior designs that include the public space and the exhibition area. The organizer will announce the winners of the competition Aug. 14. One of the winning designs will be chosen for the museum.

The competition is jointly launched by the Qianhai authority and the city’s culture, radio, television, tourism and sports bureau, and organized by Qianhai Development and Investment Holding Co. Ltd.
