Jointly owned underground car park in use

An underground car park spanning several adjacent high-rise office buildings in the Mawan area began operations Thursday.

The car park, jointly owned by the proprietors of Qianhai Sinlikon Center, SF Headquarters Tower, Qianhai Shimao Center, Heung Kong Financial Center, Gionee Building, Qianhai Free Trade Tower and Qianhai Xiangbin, is operated by Qianhai Smart Transportation Operation and Technology Co. Ltd., as commissioned by the property owners.

Currently, only 428 of the total 1,975 parking places of the three-floor parking garage are available for use.

An officer with the planning and construction department of Qianhai Cooperation Zone Authority, said at the opening ceremony that the joint ownership of the car park of is an innovative solution to make the most efficient use of the limited land resources in Qianhai.

First of its kind in the country, the parking facilities make use of the common space between two adjacent buildings among the seven office towers in Block 3 of the 19th unit in Mawan.

The officer said it has set an example for the other developers in Qianhai in terms of how to utilize the minimal space available.

He urged the Qianhai smart transport company to work out an effective management system in its daily operation of the underground car park.

“The project is a strategic effort in the construction of a smart transportation system in Qianhai,” head of the Qianhai Smart Transportation Operation and Technology Co. Ltd., said of the car park.
