A ceremony was held Friday morning to mark the start of 11 major projects with a total investment of 30.12 billion yuan (US$4.25 billion) in the drive of turning Qianhai into a new urban center.

The CMG Qianhai Global Trade Center, located in the Mawan area, will become a new urban landmark for the Fortune 500 companies and the headquarters of a cluster of major enterprises in international trade in the free trade area.

A high-end housing project will be built by State-owned enterprise Tagen Group in the Guiwan area. Covering about 67,200 square meters, it is designed as the first boutique residential area in Qianhai for high-end talents.

Qianhai will be covered by the 5G network, the latest generation of mobile Internet that offers faster speed and more reliable connections, after the construction of 125 new outdoor 5G base stations and indoor digital DAS (distributed antenna system) is completed, pushing Qianhai steps closer to become a demonstration zone of quality communication services.

Work also started on the interior design of a service center in the China Resources Qianhai Center in Guiwan. It will serve as an important platform for international exchanges and house the media center of Voice of China.

With a total investment of 8.3 billion yuan, the Shenzhen headquarters of smart phone manufacturer Vivo and the Bay Area Industrial Investment Tower projects will be built in the neighboring central business district of Bao’an District.

Renovation will be carried out in the coastal area of Qianwan and Guiwan, extending 1,100 meters. Public facilities and service stations will be added to the public parks in the area with improved public transportation services. The border police barracks in Qianhai will undergo a facelift, upgrading the living condition and training facilities for the armed border police stationed at the barracks.

The remaining two projects are located in Shekou. The Weibo Mountain Tunnel will be built to connect Wanghai Road and Gangwan Road 1, including facelift to Gongye Road I and Yuanhai Road. The 386-meter project, including 155.5 meters of the tunnel, is designed with a speed of 40 kilometers per hour, which is expected to ease the traffic pressure on the often congested Nanhai Boulevard, a main urban road to the Shekou area, and provide an easy access to the Shekou Cruise Home Port.

An urban renovation project will be carried out on the 55,000-square-meter Energy Industrial Community. The project will offer government-subsidized housing with a total floor space of 11,000 square meters and high-quality commercial apartments in the area west of Qianhai Road and south of Lihai Road in Shekou.
