Renovation on Guimiao Road to complete before year end

Travel time will be cut in half driving from downtown Futian District to Qianhai after the renovated Guimiao Road is opened to traffic, according to the city’s transport authority.

The Guimiao Road renovation project extends 4.9 kilometers from the Binhai-Keyuan Interchange in the east to Zhenhai Road in the southwest of Qianhai in the west, passing by Houhai, Nanhai and Nanshan boulevards, Nanxin and Qianhai roads, as well as Yueliangwan Boulevard.

The former Guimiao Road will be renovated into a double-decker urban trunk road, with the eight-lane two-way tunnel serving the main traffic between Qianhai and downtown. The ground level, of six lanes in two ways after the renovation, will serve traffic connecting to the north-south roads.

Pedestrian overpasses will also be built along Guimiao Road for the convenience of residents and pedestrians in the area.

The Guimiao Road will become smarter and safer with the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and other new technologies. For example, the dual image recognition technology that monitors the traffic condition on the road will report accidents and congestion to the traffic authorities in real time.

Construction has already been completed on the section between Zhenhai Road and Yueliangwan Boulevard. Electricity installation and landscaping along the road section are currently under way.

The renovation project is expected to ease the traffic pressure on the often congested Guimiao Road, the gateway to Qianhai.
