A ceremony was held Nov. 26 to mark the completion of the main steel structure of the Qianhai International Conference Center on Qianwan Road 1.

Tian Fu, member on the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and director of the Authority of China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone Qianhai and Shekou Area, Du Peng, director of the Qianhai Cooperation Zone Authority, attended the ceremony, along with other officials with the Qianhai authority, managers of the developer Qianhai Development and Investment Holding Ltd. and the project contractor.

Covering an area of 40,550 square meters, the Qianhai International Conference Center will become a new landmark in Qianhai, and it is an important project in the construction of Qianhai into a new urban center, said Du Peng at the ceremony.

Du Peng urged continuous efforts to make sure the project will be completed in May next year. He said all parties should bear high quality and safety in mind during the construction of a world-class international conference center with Lingnan architectural style. The conference center would serve as a present for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the 10th anniversary of the inauguration of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone.

Construction started on the conference center in June and it took the contractor, China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corp. Ltd., 82 days to complete the underground work of the project and 40 days to finish the steel structure of the conference center, according to a project manager of the contractor.

“The project is a good example that showcases ‘Qianhai Speed and Qianhai Power,’” said Guo Jun, general manager of Qianhai Development and Investment Holding Ltd., the developer of the conference center.

Guo pledged fine craftsmanship in building the conference center’s glass-curtain exterior and interior design, vowing to deliver an artistically made venue.

The conference center will contain a 1,840-square-meter conference room that can accommodate up to 1,422 people on the first floor and a multifunctional hall with a capacity of 2,000 people on the second floor. Other supportive facilities such as an underground garage and a banquet room will also be available at the center.

The international conference center is scheduled to put into service in August.
