South China's Guangdong province has made unprecedented headway in deepening its reform, restructuring industrial system and elevating its social civilization, according to an HTML 5 report by 21st Century Business Herald. Headquartered in Guangzhou, the Herald is one of China's most influential financial newspapers.

The report was issued on Dec 4 and presented over the weekend in the new media language of HTML 5. It summed up new achievements in the province since President Xi Jinping visited Guangdong in December 2012.

Xi visited the Pearl River Delta cities of Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan and Guangzhou from Dec 7 to 11 in 2012, soon after his appointment as secretary-general of the Communist Party of China. Guangdong was the first province visited by Xi after he took the position.

"I chose Guangdong as my first stop because I would like to pledge our determination to continue the reform and opening-up policy on the land that has led to China's reform and opening-up in the past three decades," the report quoted Xi as saying.

According to the report, the province has undertaken reform in governmental organizations and streamlined the administrative functions at city, county and provincial levels. The province surpasses almost all other provinces and regions in China in terms of its innovative capability, patents, applications of international patents under the Patent Cooperation Treaty, indices of IPR comprehensive development and protection, and the index of environment protection.

Various examples were cited in the report, including the Shenzhen's Qianhai Free Trade Zone. Since starting from scratch, the zone has attracted over 60,000 enterprises to settle there, accounting for 2.79 trillion yuan ($435.45 billion) in registered capital. Guangdong-headquartered Tencent Inc achieved a net profit of 78.9 billion yuan in 2014, compared with 43.8 billion yuan in 2012, the report said.

The province aims to achieve an industrial output of around 2 trillion yuan by 2019 from the advanced equipment manufacturing sector, as opposed to the 872.57 billion yuan achieved in 2013. Guangdong's advanced equipment manufacturing sector is predominant in cities on the western bank of the Pearl River, such as Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Yangjiang.
