According to the city’s bureau of justice, a foreign-funded law firm has handed its application to the Qianhai Authority on May 18. It would, if successful, become the very first law firm of its kind operating in the zone, the city and the Guangdong Pilot Free Trade Zone.

The Brinks Gilson & Lione ranks among the top 10 law firms in the United States.

Once its Shenzhen representative office has been established it would help protect the intellectual property and offer services for local export enterprises.

According to the authorities, the application needs to be notarized by a U.S. notary, then authenticated by both the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago and the Illinois Secretary of State, and ratified by the Ministry of Justice.

The chief representative of the firm should stay in China over six-month each year and the representatives are required to have more than two-year’s experience of practice overseas.
