As one of the top 10 constructions in Qianhai Shekou Pilot Free Trade Zone, the Prince Bay Cruise Home Port, which has been constructed by the China Merchants Group, will strengthen the development of the high-end tourism and improve the quality of the city’s infrastructure, said Tian Fu, director of the Qianhai Shekou Pilot Free Trade Zone Authority.

He said there were few months left to finish building the home port and the task was arduous. As the cruise terminal will generate a brand-new industry, the builders might come across many unprecedented problems. “Thus, full support from different departments is needed. The builders should optimize the procedure, speed up the construction and come up with solutions immediately,” he said. “ Also, a risk assessment and related plans should be made.” He also stressed on the safety work, transportation planning and the development of rail transit.

Wu Yihuan, the city’s vice-mayor, said the home port has been designated as the national pilot cruise tourism zone and related researches need to be conducted.

Built with world-class standards, cruise terminal will be shaped as waves to match with the surrounding scenery. The design also implies the spirit of revolution and innovation.

According to the planning, a 220,000-tonnage berth, a 50,000-tonnage berth, 10,000-tonnage berth will be built respectively and 12 800-tonnage berths will also be added.

A cruise center that overs 13,6000 square meters was designed by a famed French designer. It will provide customs and dining services, business offices, duty-free products and exhibitions.

A large complex that is located behind the cruise center is also under construction.

In addition to the improvement of the infrastructure, the cruise terminal will also stimulate the cruise economy. According to the McKinsey & Company, the industry will contribute to 1-2% increase of the city’s GDP.
