A total of 57 well-furnished apartments with relatively low rent for startup entrepreneurs in Qianhai are now accepting applications, according to authorities at Saturday’s opening ceremony of Qianhai YOU+ International Youth Community.
Four types of apartments targeting young residents with net space ranging from 19.35 to 39.52 square meters are available for applicants to choose. The lowest rent is 2,000 yuan (US$290) a month.
Liu Yang, founder of YOU+, a Guangzhou-based youth hostel and community, said that over 60 percent of the apartments will be provided to Hong Kong, Macao and international applicants.
With the opening of the community, entrepreneurs working at the Qianhai Shenzhen Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub (E Hub) will save time on transportation and have more opportunities to communicate with people from other projects.
Li Yafei, CFO of Qianhai United Development Holdings – the administrative body of the E Hub, said that it took three weeks for them to negotiate with YOU+ to realize the project.
“We conducted research on YOU+ projects and found that their mode meets our design. Then we asked about the ideal price of rent among Qianhai’s entrepreneurs and made a careful comparison among the rents around the area. We convinced YOU+ to lower the rents by exempting some expenses such as property management fees, utilities, air conditioner fees and other fees, which will be all covered by the authority,” said Li.
Besides strengthening the facilities, the Qianhai authorities are also organizing various startup project competitions and road shows to attract talents.
On Saturday, 18 teams from Hong Kong joined a startup project selection. They explained their hardware, IT and cultural projects to the judges, expecting to win the chance to settle at the E Hub.
According to Li, the E Hub will continue to offer short-term rent-free offices, professional guidance and chances to meet various investors, to assist them in making achievements in the competitive market.
