ISTUARY Wearable IoT (Internet of things) Lab was inaugurated in Qianhai on Friday, aiming to shift the epicenter of wearable computing from North America to China to Shenzhen, said Steve Mann, main initiator of the lab.

As the newest addition to over 1,000 wearable tech labs in the city, the Qianhai lab is expected to help create a comprehensive industrial chain and inspire the development of related products.

Mann, a leading Canadian scientist and inventor who is best known for wearable computing, computational photography, humanistic intelligence and meta augmented reality, said at the inauguration ceremony that he believes the revolution of wearable technology, IoT and humanistic intelligence will take place in China.

“Shenzhen, in many ways, is the world’s capital of manufacturing,” said Mann, the chief scientist at Istuary Innovation Group, which works to stimulate exchange between China and overseas entrepreneurs.

“It is where you can find the high-level, excellent manufacturer and it has become the world leader of making things. This is why I bring the wearable IoT lab into Shenzhen,” he said.

“Shenzhen has a complete industrial chain and Qianhai has its advantage in the financial sector. We hope to combine the advantages of Shenzhen and Canada, to allow tech industries to grow larger and more sustainable and receive more financial support from the market,” said Sun Yi’an, chairman of Istuary group.

A total of 12 high-tech projects from North America, including some rare high-intelligent technology, some of which were supported by Mann, joined a road show at the E Hub in Qianhai on Friday.
