The Qianhai R&D and Service Platform for Smart Manufacturing was unveiled and began operations yesterday at theNorthern Division of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub (E-hub), marking another upgrade to the scope and service capacity of the incubator’s innovation and technology support ecosystem.
The platform is designed to provide a one-stop solution to four major bottlenecks faced by startups and research teams: high trial-and-error costs in R&D, long prototype develoment cycles, a lack of pilot testing and validation, and difficulties in compliance testing. It is expected to help companies shorten R&D cycles by more than 30% and significantly reduce the cost of physical prototyping, while opening up a key pathway for the commercialization of research results from universities and innovation projects in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

The platform will focus on empowering four frontier sectors: smart hardware, AI and robotics, medical devices, and electronic information and IoT. By offering market-oriented, end-to-end services, it aims to break down barriers to hard-tech innovation and ease the burden on local science and technology enterprises while accelerating their development.
At the unveiling ceremony, Wei Xiang, head of operations at the Qianhai R&D and Service Platform for Smart Manufacturing, said the platform will leverage Qianhai's role as a bridge between Shenzhen and Hong Kong to connect shared manufacturing equipment, industrial resources and expert networks. By tapping into E-hub's innovation ecosystem, it aims to help manufacturers across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area accelerate the commercialization of university research.

The event also featured a signing ceremony for service cooperation agreements between the platform and four innovation carriers from Hong Kong universities such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong InnoHub for New Quality Industries and the Hong Kong Baptist University Qianhai Institute for Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.
The cooperation includes a range of dedicated support measures. Faculty, students and longitudinal research projects, as well as graduation design projects from Hong Kong universities, will be eligible for special discounts on equipment use, processing services and testing services. Laboratories will also offer long-term booking channels, along with a full set of engineering implementation guidance services, supporting multi-party collaboration on common technology research.
Dozens of advanced manufacturing companies in E-hub participated in the event. Many attendees expressed enthusiasm for the platform’s launch, saying its services precisely match the real needs of hard-tech startups and can effectively address common challenges in R&D and production.
