China Southern Airlines will open its direct flight to Mexico City on May 11, according to a notice posted on the operator’s official WeChat account yesterday.

This marks the airline’s first direct flight to Latin America and boasts the title of China’s longest direct international flight route spanning 14,000 kilometers. The journey will be operated using the A350 wide-body aircraft.

Flight CZ8031 will operate every Tuesday and Saturday, with departure at 9 p.m. The flight duration totals 16 hours. The return flight, CZ8032, will depart from Mexico City at 1 a.m. local time and arrive in Shenzhen at 12:20 a.m. following a layover at Tijuana, a border city in northwest Mexico, according to the operator.
